Meet Our First Summer Externship Group!

For a student who has recently graduated high school or college, there are so many career paths to explore. This can be an exciting time filled with big decisions. Without much professional experience, how is a young person to know which way to go? For someone curious about public accounting, that’s where the LGA externship program comes in. This three-day intensive program provides a unique, hands-on experience along with access to the inner workings of a dynamic CPA firm.

This year’s externship program gave eleven high school and college students the chance to network with professionals, work together and learn more about public accounting. The students got a taste of all our departments followed by helpful Q&A sessions with LGA employees. We made sure to immerse the students into the LGA culture so that they had the opportunity to acclimate to working within a friendly, professional environment. The energetic group also participated in an LGA committee group project focused on creating recommendations for the LGA Gives Back Committee and created new committees to add to our culture. The students also got an in-depth excel training and a career consulting session. Of course, we integrated some fun, starting with an office scavenger hunt, games, workshops, and an ice cream truck!

We spoke with extern Greg Arsenault, a sophomore at Merrimack College, who shared that he’s eager to apply the knowledge he’s learned over the past three days. “This externship gave me a better grasp of what working in the accounting industry is actually like. The different speakers from different departments helped me have a better understanding. I personally have a better direction on where I want to go because of this program. It was nice to be in a firm for three days to get a feel for what the work environment is like,” said Greg.

Nisarg Jhaveri, extern and UMass Lowell sophomore, states “LGA is redefining the word culture, breaking stereotypes, and busting myths regarding public accounting. This externship provides a sense of what success and happiness means and how LGA’s work environment can elevate you to that level so quickly.”

Our program is a great opportunity for aspiring young professionals to get some experience within the accounting industry and engage in our culture. The program helps students start to lay solid foundations in their careers and gain essential experience before they even graduate. We are excited to continue to grow and build this amazing program and look forward to continuing our relationship with the students.

“We had an amazing three days with highly engaged and enthusiastic high school and college students interested to learn more about careers in public accounting. It was very fulfilling and exciting to design this program to not only provide the education but also have them spend time in our office. We truly enjoyed getting to know them and sharing our career paths and thoughts,” says program coordinator Janine Danielson.
