LGA Welcomes Mary-Joan Potvin as Manager of Client Service Innovation and Learning & Development

LGA proudly announces Mary-Joan (MJ) Pelletier Potvin, CPA, CGMA, MSA has joined the firm as Manager of Client Service Innovation and Learning & Development. Mary-Joan will focus on enhancing and streamlining client deliverables within the Outsourced Management Accounting and Business Advisory service lines, as well as support the firm’s Learning and Development initiatives. As a former member of academia, MJ will elevate the firm’s recently established LGA University, focused on providing LGA’s clients and team with continuous education in this rapidly changing and evolving environment.

“The addition of MJ to our team further demonstrates our commitment to innovation around how to best develop our internal resources and improve upon the delivery of our services to our clients,” says, Managing Partner, John Geraci.

For the last 15 years, MJ was a professor of accounting, specializing in financial accounting and reporting, online education, instructional design, and the use of technology in the classroom. During this time, MJ taught at both Suffolk University and Merrimack College. She received Outstanding Educator awards from the academic deans at Suffolk University and her professional peers at the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. She served four years as the Associate Director of Graduate Programs in Accounting at Suffolk and worked closely with the Assistant Dean of graduate programs at Merrimack to launch the online Masters of Science in Accounting. At both schools, MJ was very involved with her students by engaging in accounting clubs, cooperative education, career placement, and by inviting industry professionals into her classroom.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Team LGA! The firm has an outstanding reputation for quality service to its clients, strong team spirit and dedication among its employees, and forward-thinking and innovation by its partners. I look forward to my role in designing courses and training, performing data analysis and visualizations, and making a meaningful contribution to the firm and its client base,” says Mary-Joan Pelletier Potvin.

MJ has been an active member of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs since 2007, serving on the board of the society’s Educational Foundation and on the scholarship and Academic and Career Development committees. She is also a member of the AICPA and the American Accounting Association.

“I was thrilled to hear that MJ will be joining John Geraci and his team at LGA. I think it’s an innovative and bold move, and I can’t imagine a better pick than MJ. She has been an incredible contributor to the profession and was recognized for that by being named Outstanding Educator of the Year in 2016. She’s also been a tremendous friend to the Society through her work in our Education Foundation including being on the scholarship selection committee, our Academic and Career Development Committee and in general, always being ready to partner and assist us in any way, looking for ways to improve student programing, and encouraging more great talent to enter the accounting profession,” says MSCPA President and CEO, Amy Pitter.

Before transitioning into higher education in 2005, MJ spent nearly 20 years working in various roles in industry. She was an Audit Manager for PwC, a Senior Corporate Auditor and Operations Consultant for a retail conglomerate , Director of Financial and SEC Reporting for a publicly-held nursing home management company, Director of Project Management for a retail loss-prevention software concern, and Controller for a publicly-held pharmacogenomics company.

“LGA is very excited to welcome MJ to join Team LGA! I have a wonderful relationship with MJ given LGA’s strong commitment to working with students to introduce them to public accounting and our recruiting efforts at the colleges and universities. Based upon her various talents and experiences, MJ will be enhancing LGA’s commitment to Learning and Development so that staff at all levels can enjoy the benefits of continuous learning. Also, we recently established LGA University so the timing could not have been more perfect that we have an experienced professor on the team. MJ began her career in public accounting, so we are thrilled she is returning and honored that she has chosen our firm. We look forward to working with her in many capacities to serve our valued team members and clients,” said Outsourced Management Accounting Managing Director, Janine Danielson.
