LGA would like to inform you of two notable changes to MA state charity filings, announced by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell:
- Effective May 31, 2023, the minimum revenue requirement to necessitate an attached 990 filing has been elevated. Now, Massachusetts charities that garner gross support and revenue of $25,000 or less are exempted from including a Form 990EZ with their Form PC. This increases the threshold from the previous limit of $5,000.
- Starting September 1, 2023, all Form PC filings that are due or extended must be submitted via the Massachusetts Online Charity Portal. The state will no longer accept paper submissions of the Form PC post this date. This means that even if your charity utilizes tax preparation software, you will need to use the Online Massachusetts Portal because current tax software is not equipped to file the Form PC electronically.
We recommend signing up for the Massachusetts Online Charity Portal in advance of the deadline. By enrolling now, well ahead of the filing deadline, you can avoid the stress of last-minute filings. You can register for the Massachusetts Online Charity Portal here.
